Introducing Mark Masters Consulting Group

Mark Masters Consulting Group is focused entirely upon creating smart, profitable and sustainable solutions to both media companies and those who are looking to invest in media companies. We provide a full range of vetting services on behalf of investors, and for professionals doing due diligence on media companies of any size. We also provide a full array of other innovative and media-centric consulting and direct management services to media investors and companies.

A few examples of key questions we’ve long since asked and then profitably answered for our clients to date are:

  • Is your media company facing structural problems where you need to see a rapid increase in revenues while also implementing cost-saving innovations?
  • Are you looking to optimize or leverage your existing media brand power but are perhaps a bit too close to effectively do so without an expert assist?
  • Do you watch other media players succeeding in your nationwide television, network radio, or podcasting niche, knowing that your programming could win if distributed more widely? Do you feel “a new set of eyes” could provide concise, thoughtful leadership solutions to navigate both “reach and ratings” breakthroughs?
  • Are you a major investor in or do you run a media company and suspect it may need key managerial roles overhauled?
  • Would you like to simply delegate some of your primary leadership functions to an interim mentor-team of media management experts in order to optimize your existing structural systems, bringing revenues to new heights in the process?

We have successfully participated in these sorts of assignments to happy conclusions before, and we can help your company to profitably answer these and other key questions as well.

One or more of our consulting team may even be able to help your media company by playing one of multiple interim “C” suite roles (6 months to 2 years), helping to lead your media company into a period of rapid, sustained listener, viewer, and customer satisfaction/revenue growth.

We can do all of the above while we help you to recruit a culturally compatible long-term “C” suite “replacement bench” — trained by us to your corporate values — to continue the success which our interim team can profitably build for your media enterprise.

Finally, are you a beleaguered major investor or lender to a troubled media company which may need a new, more innovative management approach for the benefit of all of its stakeholders? Further to that question, as a major investor and/or lender, do you ever wish you had immediate viable options for a “replacement leadership group” which can make your core media assets perform at an optimal level while increasing the value of those assets and their core listener, viewer, or customers’ overall experience?

These and other thoughtful leadership options are what our expert team is capable of designing, offering, and then fully implementing for you and your team. Creating smart, profitable, qualitative leadership solutions for media companies of any kind is our specialty.

Meet Mark Masters, National Media Entrepreneur, Innovator, and Strategist

Mark Masters

Mark is a U.S.-based media CEO and technology entrepreneur who has been nationally recognized over the last three decades for his often game changing approach to corporate innovation, quality, and profitability. This was especially so in the national media space. Mark has also been an expert consultant to leading business executives such as former General Electric CEO, Jack Welch; FNC CEO, Roger Ailes; and a former United States President. Mark was a first-hand student of quality legend W. Edwards Deming, and has often utilized the best practices and revolutionary thinking taken from unrelated industries, transplanting those disciplines into media for often stunning results.

Prior to full time media consulting, Mark was CEO of multiple media companies from 1988 to 2016. These included publishing, television production company ownership and multiple national spoken word radio networks. During his tenure as CEO, he built, launched, managed, and grew more top-10 nationally syndicated breakout network talk shows than any other executive in the national network radio marketplace since 1988. His top-tier national programming offerings delivered repeated, exceptional results for station affiliates, national advertisers, and strategic partners alike.

Mark’s vision and ability to deliver on his strategies resulted in a compound gross annual revenue growth rate for his combined companies, averaging 49% for each and every year, five consecutive years in a row, landing Mark’s companies as the largest independent and second-largest national network radio spoken word programming provider in the United States by 2008.

In addition to issues-oriented programming, Mark also launched the largest syndicated all-news-only, long form morning drive news wheel in America, and he continued that pattern by launching America’s Radio News Network. For short form national syndication, Mark designed, built, launched, and grew the fastest growing syndicated top-of-the-hour news product in America for the Fox News Channel (Fox News Radio). He’s also launched countless other top-tier, nationally syndicated shows, including for Forbes, Motor Trend Radio, Car and Driver, and Science Fantastic to name a few.

Through his group of media companies, Mark also launched and ran a successful direct response advertising agency subsidiary, National Advertising Company, Inc. (NAC 2005 – 2014). Through NAC, Mark and his team personally designed and launched many of the most well known and successful direct response advertising campaigns (for ROI) of the last two decades.

Media industry leaders on Mark Masters

Eric B. Rhoads

Chairman, Streamline Publishing (Radio Ink Magazine)

“[Mark Masters] has taken his one-time small company and turned it into one of the most powerful forces in the radio broadcasting industry. His company has grown tremendously in sales, in employees and job creation, and in respect on every level. Mark was against the biggest names in broadcasting with large financial backing behind them and yet he managed to build a series of radio networks, with listening and advertising levels, which bettered what these established networks were doing.”

Ellis Henican

Author, columnist for Newsday, TV pundit

“Mark has taken [Michael Savage, Laura Ingraham, Jerry Doyle and others] and boosted their shows immeasurably… He has also delivered left-leaning talk-radio guys like Alan Colmes into national syndication. He has created major radio platforms for top print brands like Forbes and Motor Trend. He has syndicated quite a few hosts who are almost impossible to categorize politically—science brainiac Michio Kaku, morning whirlwind Mancow, comic Jackie Mason and late-night subversive Phil Hendrie.”

Rebecca Hagelin

Former Vice President, The Heritage Foundation

“The NAC team and Mark (Masters) were instrumental in every aspect of the creation and excellent execution of Heritage’s ‘What Would Reagan Do’ campaign. NAC’s creativity, enthusiasm and professionalism have resulted in wonderful results for Heritage and a great relationship with TRN, ABC, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham in what is a seven figure national campaign.”

Alan Colmes

Radio and tv host and political commentator

“Mark Masters, a proud conservative, always believed that I was one liberal who might survive on talk radio. He arranged to get my program heard on an impressive group of incubator stations before there was even a show, an almost unheard of feat in the world of radio syndication.”

Under Acknowledgments, Red, White & Liberal

Andrew Breitbart

Founder, Breitbart.com

“Mark, thanks for dropping out of school and selling puka shells. You are an immense inspiration, a general, and a good friend.”

In 2002, the CEO of Fox News Channel (FNC) reached out to Mark and asked him to build and launch the radio division of FNC. That collaboration between FNC’s CEO and Mark resulted in the fastest growth of any top-of-the-hour nationally syndicated radio news product in the country, Fox News Radio. FNC’s CEO was the first to ask Mark to become a consultant (in 2002). Mark also launched FNC’s long-form, nationally-syndicated talk radio division. One of Mark’s companies would also go on to become a capital partner to a successful international television production company, which he also advised. Mark has also been an expert media consultant to leading former members of the United States Congress and was sought out as a strategic media advisor by a former United States President.

Some of Mark’s proudest accomplishments revolve around the highly successful, national direct response advertising campaigns which he created and launched on behalf of his clients. These campaigns include the most successful non-profit membership campaign in the United States for an educational non-profit, “What Would Reagan Do” for The Heritage Foundation. Previous to radio, Mark was an award-winning print journalist, publisher, and entrepreneur.

Mark’s abilities in launching breakout programming was matched by his abilities to create high impact ROI on the direct response campaigns he’s created. Mark’s management prowess and understanding of most all aspects of the media world gave rise to the creation of Mark Masters Consulting Group.

Spotlight on Mark Masters Consulting Group team member: Branigan Sherman

Branigan Sherman

Branigan Sherman is a national media entrepreneur in the non-profit space with over 20 years of experience starting, growing, managing and saving non-profit organizations. His vision and executive leadership helped start and grow what became one of the largest Catholic radio networks in the United States.

Under Branigan’s strategic guidance and leadership, his organization raised eight figures in donations for market expansion which enabled them to acquire AM and FM stations in many of the key, top 40 markets in the country.

With degrees in both philosophy and theology, and a keen ability to understand and engage people where they are, Branigan created and launched the radio programming and communications strategy that resulted in one of the most successful format flips ever in the non-profit broadcasting space. His most recent efforts resulted in a 92% increase in network audience within less than a year.

Separate from his own station group, Branigan’s strategic vision and guidance led a national media company to move beyond its shortwave-only distribution model and into servicing traditional radio stations; this ultimately resulted in the largest Catholic network of AM and FM affiliate stations in the country.
